About Love Xmas
Do you sell Christmas trees and decorations?
No. Love Xmas is a guide: we help you choose, then link you to shops such as Amazon.co.uk to buy. Orders, delivery, returns and customer service are all handled by the shop you buy from.
How do you make money?
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. If you click one of our shop links and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It doesn’t change what we recommend.
Why do some products say “Check price on Amazon”?
We never guess or copy old prices. We only show a price if it was checked within the last 24 hours, together with the date and time it was checked. Otherwise we send you to the shop to see the current price, which can change at any time.
Why are the pictures illustrations?
We draw our own festive illustrations rather than copying shop photos. Click through to the shop to see photos of the exact product.
Christmas trees
What size Christmas tree do I need?
Take your ceiling height and subtract about 25–30cm for the stand and topper. In a typical modern UK home with a 2.3–2.4m ceiling, that means a 6ft tree. See the full size guide.
What is the most popular Christmas tree size?
6ft (about 180cm). It suits most UK living rooms with space for a star or angel on top.
Are pre-lit trees worth it?
For most people, yes: they save time, the lights are evenly spread and there’s no untangling. The trade-off is that you can’t easily change the lights. Look for LEDs, a timer and a foot switch or remote. Pre-lit trees.
Do flocked trees shed?
A little, especially in the first year. Assemble the tree on an old sheet, handle it gently, and store it in a breathable bag in a dry place.
What is a pencil tree?
A very narrow tree, often under 60cm wide even at 6ft or 7ft tall. Ideal for corners, hallways and small rooms. Slim and pencil trees.
How do I make an artificial tree look fuller?
Fluff every branch: separate each tip and spread them up, down and sideways. Start at the bottom and work from the trunk outwards. Then add garlands or picks to fill any gaps.
Christmas lights
Can I use indoor lights outside?
No. Only use lights clearly marked as suitable for outdoor use outside, with an IP44 rating or higher. Read our lights safety guide.
What does IP44 mean?
IP ratings show protection against solids (first digit) and water (second digit). IP44 means protected against objects over 1mm and splashing water from any direction: the usual minimum for outdoor Christmas lights.
Why do outdoor lights have a transformer?
A safety transformer reduces mains voltage to a low voltage (often 24V or 31V), so the cable and lights outdoors carry far less voltage. It’s the safer choice outdoors.
How many lights do I need for my tree?
A popular rule of thumb is around 100 bulbs per foot of tree: about 600 for a 6ft tree. More if you like it bright.
One section of my pre-lit tree has gone out. What can I do?
Check the plugs between sections are fully connected and the controller is working. Many trees have spare bulbs or fuses in the box. Check the maker’s instructions, and don’t attempt to repair damaged wiring.
