What to look for

  • You will need lots of lights: a common rule of thumb is around 100 bulbs per foot of tree for a well-lit look.
  • Check the assembled weight and the box size for storage.
  • Two people make set-up much easier (and safer) at this size.

Will a 8ft+ tree fit?

A 8ft+ (240cm+) tree usually suits a ceiling height from about 2.75m (9ft) once you allow for the stand and a topper. Check the highlighted row below, and measure where the tree will actually stand.

Rule of thumb: tree height = ceiling height minus 25–30cm, to leave room for the stand (which lifts the tree a few centimetres) and your topper. Always check the stated height of the exact tree you buy.

Short on floor space? Try a slim or pencil tree at the same height. Want to skip the lights? Go pre-lit. Read the full Christmas tree size guide.
